Ingredients

  • 1 sourdough loaf, hollowed out
  • Salt and pepper
  • 18 slices cheddar cheese
  • 12 slices thick cut ham
  • 8 tomatoes, sliced
  • Few sprigs thyme
Sauce
  • 100g butter
  • 50g plain flour
  • 500ml full fat milk
  • 500g cheddar cheese, grated

Method

Preheat the oven to 170c.

Make the sauce by heating the butter and flour. Add the milk, whisking all the time. Finish with the cheese and season.

To make the sarnie, layer up the bread with cheese, tomatoes and ham. Pop into a large oven-proof dish, cover in the sauce and bake for 20 to 25 minutes until golden and crisp. Slice and serve.
